Let’s see what this thing can do! I’m going to slap this beautiful fork on my Cove STD to see what kind of DH/FR abuse it can handle. With the Boxxer’s Mission Control DH, Dual Flow damper enclosed within this lightweight chassis I have the feeling that I won’t be disappointed with the performance. I was going to build up the STD as a full on DH Race bike but I’ve decided to take it back to it’s roots as a Shore style trail destroyer. I’m going to lighten it up as much as possible without sacrificing too much durability. The first step in the weight loss plan will be to take off a little over 2 pounds form the front end by going from the Marzocchi 66 RC3 to the 2010 Lyrik SoloAir DH 170mm. Stop back often for updates on the Lyrik and the Cove STD. Here are the specs on the Lyrik DH courtesy of SRAM.com.
With a new 170mm travel option, re-valved damping and the Maxle Lite thru-axle added to an already epic offering, the Lyrik just got leaner and meaner. Sure, the efficient and nimble 35mm chassis design will get you to the top of the mountain. But, it’s the smooth control on the downhill that will drive you to go back to the top again and again. -SRAM.com

I can’t believe how light that thing is dude. The front end will be so light you’ll probably back flip accidentally the first time you come off a lip and pull up, haha!
The front end will definitely be lighter. It should feel nice and snappy. I’ll take an accidental back flip any day as long as I land it LOL.
Just a little update to this post. I replaced the Lyrik with a Totem for no other reason than I felt I needed the burliest single crown fork available for the riding that I will be doing this summer. The Lyrik was very nice while I had it and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a super light all-mountain/light FR fork.
