That's what I'm talking about. Carbon has been around forever but it's now to the point where the public is accepting/trusting the material and the manufacturing processes for serious DH applications.

Yes, the Lapierre has a carbon swingarm. But carbon bikes have been around for a long time. I had a carbon swingarm on my Proflex 12 years ago! I will say that 2010 will be the year that carbon was fully accepted by downhillers, thanks to that very impressive V10 shown above - and the Santa Cruz Synidcate. I think the doubt is slowing being erased from people's minds...

Great examples of innovation. The floating BB that causes the suspension to seek the sag point under pedaling power on the Lapierre is very interesting. Materials and manufacturing technology is progressing as well. This year we saw the release of legitimate carbon downhill frames like the Santa Cruz V10c and the GT Fury. Advancement in materials and manufacturing means lighter bikes that don't sacrifice strength, I'm all for that!

That Lapierre has a carbon swingarm doesn't it?

Why do the road gaps look so easy in the videos LOL? This course looks fun, the "wild zone" is no joke. It isn't hard to ride because you can hit it slow but you'll really need to blaze it to be a contender which is easier said than done. The rock garden before it and the switchbacks after it are just as difficult. Big props to the Trail Crew!!

Thanks! I totally agree with you. 7Springs is sinking money into improving the park and the Trailbuilders are creating some great stuff there. If you're nearby get over there and help the place prosper. I was told that they are seeing increased numbers and profits this year which is really great news. I'm hoping that trend continues and that the park continues to expand on its already awesome foundation.

Nice review - everyone needs to visit and spend some money there. It's never too busy - which is what scares me. Support your local lift accessed trails! They've made improvements this year, let's hope it keeps on improving, there is still a lot of untapped potential at 7 springs.

Me too. I love new designs, especially those that are as well though out as this. I have a couple of nitpicks and questions on the frame though: It looks difficult to adjust the shock when mounted in the frame. Do you have to use a proprietary chainguide? Will there be clearance issues with the chain and the support that links the chain stay and seat stay near the seat tube? I'm still totally stoked on this frame regardless.

Just a little update to this post. I replaced the Lyrik with a Totem for no other reason than I felt I needed the burliest single crown fork available for the riding that I will be doing this summer. The Lyrik was very nice while I had it and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a super light all-mountain/light FR fork.

I would consider the Maelstrom to be more in line with the Demo 7 than the SX Trail. The Maelstrom is more descent oriented than it is a climber. If you're looking at bikes like the SX Trail you might also consider the Banshee Rune, Cove G-Spot, Knolly Delirium or Giant Reign X. They are all lighter and more capable of climbing than the Maelstrom. If you want a hardcore freerider like the Maelstrom you might also consider the Cove STD, Giant Faith, Knolly V-Tach or Banshee Scythe. The good thing is that there are a ton of great bikes to choose from right now. One of the bikes that I'm really excited about is the Trek Scratch line. I had a chance to ride one briefly and I was extremely impressed.
